Drug Uses

Nizoral is a medicine indicated to treat systemic fungal infections. It may also be used to treat other medical conditions. Do not use Nizoral to treat fungal meningitis.

How Taken

You should use Nizoral once a day until the infection disappears. However, if the infection is serious your doctor may prescribe you a higher daily dosage of the medicine.

Warnings/Precautions

If you notice any symptoms that indicate liver dysfunction, you should inform your doctor so appropriate biochemical tests can be done. The symptoms of liver dysfunction include unusual fatigue, anorexia, nausea and/or vomiting, jaundice, dark urine or pale stools. Your metabolism may be altered by Nizoral.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Discontinue the usage of Nizoral and search for medical help if you experience fever and chills; skin rash or itching; dark or amber urine; fever and sore throat; loss of appetite; pale stools; reddening.

Storage

Nizoral should be stored at a controlled room temperature of 15°-25°C (59°-77°F). Keep the medicine away from moisture.

Overdose

Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose. An overdose of Nizoral may be signaled by constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; headache; nausea; vomiting.

More Information

You should consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after a few weeks (or a few months for some infection), or in case the symptoms worsen.
