Drug Uses

Nasacort is approved by the FDA to treat nasal symptoms of seasonal and other allergies like nasal congestion, itchy runny nose, and sneezing. Nasacort is an unscented, thixotropic, water-based metered-dose pump spray that contains microcrystalline suspension of triamcinolone acetonide in an aqueous medium.

How Taken

Nasacort is available as a solution that is inhaled through the nose. The common dosage is one to four times per day at regular intervals. You should gently blow your nose to clear the nasal passages before using the medicine. Do not blow your nose for about 15 minutes after you have inhaled the prescribed dose.

Warnings/Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have any viral, bacterial, or fungal infection. The absorption of the medicine in the body can reduce the ability to fight off infections. You may not be able to take Nasacort if you suffer from an infection. Nasacort falls into the FDA category C which means that it is not clear if is harmful for a fetus. Talk to your doctor before using Nasonex in case you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor before taking the medicine if you are breast feeding because it is not known if Nasacort passes into breast milk. Nasacort is not approved fro usage by children younger than 12 years of age.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

The usage of Nasacort may cause irritation, stinging, burning, or dryness of the nasal passages. You may also experience sneezing, nosebleed, headache, and lightheadedness, loss of taste, throat irritation or nausea. Inform your doctor if these side effects continue longer or bother you. The following side effects are unlikely to occur but if you experience them you should inform your doctor as soon as possible: persistent nose or throat irritation/soreness, white patchy areas. Other side effects that are very unlikely to occur include broken or damaged nasal membranes, unusual weakness, weight loss, nausea/vomiting, fainting, dizziness, vision changes. If you develop any of them, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. Consult your doctor if you notice any other side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

Storage

Nasacort should be stored at a controlled room temperature of 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F), away from sunlight and moisture. Do not let the medicine freeze. Keep it away from children.

Overdose

An overdose of Nasacort is very unlikely. However, if you suspect an overdose, search for medical care.

More Information

Avoid contact with items that are allergens if they worsen your symptoms. You should clean areas where dust or pet fur gathers. Do not expose yourself to known sources of infection. Avoid contact with people infected with chicken pox, measles or other infectious diseases. During a treatment with Nasacort your immune system may not be strong enough to fight off infections.
