Drug Uses

Flexeril is a muscle relaxant that is used in the treatment of pain and stiffness of muscle injuries among which are strains, sprains and muscle spasms. The active ingredient of this medicine is cyclobenzaprine.

How Taken

Flexeril is available as tablets of 10 mg. The common dosage for adults is one tablet of 10 mg three times a day. Do not exceed 60 mg of the medicine per day. Flexeril may be taken with food to avoid stomach problems. You should take Flexeril exactly as directed. Do not take more of the medicine and do not take it more often than your doctor prescribed.

Warnings/Precautions

Flexeril may not be appropriate for all individuals. Before taking the medicine, you should inform your doctor if you have had any of the following disease or are currently treated for them: glaucoma, an overactive thyroid gland, heart disease, difficulty urinating or any allergies. if you suffer from any of the above-mentioned disease your dosage may have to be reduced or you may not be able to use Flexeril. Consult your doctor before taking the drug in case you are pregnant or if you are breast feeding.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Flexeril may cause stomach upset, heartburn, constipation, headache, dizziness or drowsiness, or dry mouth during the first few days until your body adjusts to the medicine. Inform your doctor if these side effects become sever or continue for a long time. Consult your doctor if you experience muscle stiffness, skin rash, itching, rapid heart rate, swelling of the face, difficulty urinating. Dizziness or lightheadedness is likely to occur when changing quickly your position from sitting or lying to rising. Change positions slowly to avoid dizziness and be cautious on stairs. Avoid activities that require alertness if you experience dizziness or drowsiness. You may also experience other adverse effects that are not mentioned in this leaflet. Consult your doctor if you experience some other side effects.

Storage

Flexeril should be stored at a temperature of 25°C (77°F); fluctuations allowed to 15-30°C (59-86°F). Keep it away from children.

Overdose

In case of an overdose, immediately search for medical help. An overdose of Flexeril may be signaled by difficulty breathing, extreme nervousness or restlessness, flushed skin, hallucination, racing or irregular heartbeat, seizure, shortness of breath, tiredness (extreme), unstable temperature, unusual muscle stiffness, vomiting (in combination with these other symptoms).

More Information

Flexeril may increase the effects caused by alcohol, barbiturates and other CNS depressants.
