Drug Uses

Denavir is an antiviral medicine for topical use that treats recurrent cold sores (herpes labialis) on the lips and face in patients who don’t suffer from other medical conditions. Denavir may also be used for some purposes different from those listed in this leaflet.

How Taken

Denavir should be applied to the cold sores at every two hours for a period of four days. Apply it with your finger or with a cotton swab. You should wash your hands to avoid getting the medicine in the eyes or on other areas, and to prevent irritation and spread of the herpes virus.

Warnings/Precautions

Denavir is a cream for topical usage that is applied on the lips and the face. Do not apply the cream on the mucous membranes inside the mouth, nose, genital or rectal areas. Denavir falls into the FDA pregnancy category B which means in is unlikely to be harmful for a fetus. Consult your doctor before using Denavir in case you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor before using the medicine if you are breast feeding because it is not known if Denavir passes into breast milk.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

More Information

Do not use other medicines for topical usage to treat the same areas at the same time you use Denavir unless your doctor advised you so.
