Drug Uses

Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant that is used for the treatment of pain and stiffness of muscle injuries, including strains, sprains and muscle spasms. The active ingredient of Cyclobenzaprine is cyclobenzaprine.

How Taken

Cyclobenzaprine is available as tablets of 10 mg. The common dosage for adults is a tablet three times a day. Do not exceed 60 mg of Cyclobenzaprine a day. The medicine may be taken with food to avoid stomach problems. Use Cyclobenzaprine as directed; do not take more of it and do not take it more often than prescribed.

Warnings/Precautions

There may be individual who should not use Cyclobenzaprine. The side effects may be reduced if you follow your doctor’s directions but in some cases you may be advised not to use the Cyclobenzaprine. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine if you have glaucoma, an overactive thyroid gland, heart disease, difficulty urinating or any allergies. Also, inform your doctor in case you are pregnant or breast feeding.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Cyclobenzaprine may cause stomach upset, heartburn, constipation, headache, dizziness or drowsiness or dry mouth the first few days until the body adjusts to the medication. Talk your doctor if these effects continue for a longer time or get worse. Inform your doctor if you experience muscle stiffness, skin rash, itching, rapid heart rate, swelling of the face, difficulty urinating. Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur when you change your positing to rising from sitting or lying. You should change positions slowly to avoid dizziness or lightheadedness. Avoid activities that require alertness if you experience dizziness or drowsiness. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any other adverse effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

Storage

Cyclobenzaprine should be stored at 25°C (77°F); fluctuations allowed up to 15-30°C (59-86°F). Keep it away from children.

Overdose

An overdose of Cyclobenzaprine may be signaled by difficulty breathing, extreme nervousness or restlessness, flushed skin, hallucination, racing or irregular heartbeat, seizure, shortness of breath, tiredness (extreme), unstable temperature, unusual muscle stiffness, vomiting (in combination with these other symptoms). Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose.

More Information

Interaction of Cyclobenzaprine and MAO inhibitors may be life-threatening. Cyclobenzaprine may increase the effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants.
