Drug Uses

Celexa is a medicine from a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It works as it affects the unbalanced chemicals in the brain that cause the depression. Celexa is used for the treatment of depression.

How Taken

Celexa is in the form of a tablet and is taken orally. The common dosage is one tablet a day taken with or without food. You should strictly follow the instructions on the prescription and contact your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand something. The medicine should be taken exactly as prescribed; do not take larger doses of the medicine and do not take it more often. Do not discontinue the usage of Celexa even if you feel well. Do not stop taking the medicine without the approval of your doctor. A few weeks of usage may be required before the full effects of the medicine take place.

Warnings/Precautions

Inform your doctor before taking Celexa if you have liver disease, have kidney disease, suffer from seizures, or suffer from mania or have suicidal thoughts. If you take any of the above-mentioned medicine, you may not been able to use Celexa or your dosage may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored during the treatment. Talk you your doctor before taking Celexa if you have had an allergic reaction to this drug. Celexa falls into the FDA pregnancy category C which means that it is not clear if it may harm a fetus. Consult your doctor before using Celexa in case you are pregnant or you plan to become pregnant during the treatment with the medicine. Consult your doctor before using Celexa in you are breast feeding because the medicine passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing baby.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, you should take it as soon as possible and continue taking your next doses at regular intervals. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose of this medicine.

Possible Side Effects

The most common effect caused by Celexa is sexual problems in males.
Other adverse effects may include:
-nausea
-dry mouth
-sleepiness
-increase in sweating

Storage

Celexa should be kept in a dry place, at a room temperature between 15° and 30°C.

Overdose

An overdose of Celexa, alone or combined with other drugs and/ or alcohol, may be signaled by dizziness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, tremor, somnolence, and sinus tachycardia. Very rare symptoms include amnesia, confusion, coma, convulsions, hyperventilation, cyanosis, rhabdomyolysis, and ECG changes.

Be cautious when you drive, operate machinery or perform some dangerous activities because Celexa may cause dizziness. Avoid the above-mentioned activities if you experience dizziness. Also, be cautious with the usage of alcohol because it may enhance the dizziness caused by Celexa.
