Allegra - Treatment of Hayfever and Similar Allergy Symptoms

Allegra medicine is an antihistamine drug used to control symptoms of seasonal allergies such as runny or itchy nose; sneezing; itchy throat; and watery, itchy, or red eyes. It may be used to treat Hayfever or other similar conditions as determined by your doctor.

Drug Uses

Allegra is used to relieve symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and children older than 6 years of age. Among the effectively treated symptoms were sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose/palate/throat, itchy/watery/red eyes.

How Taken

Allegra comes in the form of capsules or tables and is taken orally. The common dosage is two tablets a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. Each tablet should be taken with a full glass of water. You should strictly follow the directions of your doctor while using the medicine.

Warnings/Precautions

You should not use Allegra in case you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Consult your doctor before using the medicine if you have any serious disease like heart, kidney, or liver disease. Your dosage may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored during the treatment. Allegra falls into the FDA category C which means that it is not clear if is harmful for a fetus. Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Discontinue the usage of Allegra and search for medical help if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Such allergic reactions occur very rarely and other serious adverse effects are also not likely to occur. However, you may experience some less serious side effects. Consult your doctor but do not stop using Allegra if you experience nausea or an upset stomach. You may also experience other adverse effects that are not mentioned in this leaflet. Consult your doctor if you experience some other side effects.

Storage

Allegra should be stored at a controlled room temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F). Blister packs with foil back and any other packages should be kept away from excessive moisture.

Overdose

An overdose of Allegra may be signaled by dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. Immediately search for medical help in case you suspect an overdose.

More Information

Inform your doctor about any other prescribed or not prescribed medicine that you are using, and especially MAO inhibitors, certain blood pressure drugs, digoxin, and all adrenaline-like drugs. Also, inform your doctor about any other medicines that may affect the rhythm of the heart. Talk to your doctor about this issue. Check if the medicines you use contain antihistamines and decongestants, and especially your cough-and-cold medicines. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about it.
