Drug Uses

Aciphex is a drug used for the reduction of the acid produced in the stomach. It is used in the treatment of ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease and other medical conditions that involve excessive production of acid in the stomach.

How Taken

Aciphex is available in the form of delayed-release, enteric-coated tablets that should be taken orally. The common dosage for adults is a table of 20 mg once a day for a period of 4-8 months. Each tablet should be taken with a full glass of water. The tables should not be broken, chewed or split; they should be swallowed whole. The Aciphex tablets are specially developed to be slowly released in the body.

Warnings/Precautions

Inform your doctor before taking Aciphex in case you are using any of these medicines: ketoconazole (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral). If you take any of the above-mentioned medicine, you may not been able to use Aciphex or your dosage may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored during the treatment. Other drugs which are not mentioned in this leaflet may also interact with Aciphex. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other prescribed medicines or medicine sold over-the-counter.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Aciphex causes serious side effects very rarely. Discontinue its usage and search for medical help if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). The less serious side effects caused by Aciphex are also rare. Consult your doctor but do not stop using Aciphex if you have headache; upset stomach or diarrhea; insomnia or nervousness; or a rash or itching. You may also experience other adverse effects that are not mentioned in this leaflet. Consult your doctor if you experience some other side effects.

Storage

Aciphex should be stored at a room temperature between 59°F and 86°F, and away from moisture. Keep the medicine away from children.

Overdose

The symptoms of an overdose of Aciphex are not known. Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose.

More Information

There are no particular restrictions about food, drinks or activities during the treatment with Aciphex unless your doctor advised you something else. You should not stop the usage of Aciphex even if you feel better because your symptoms may improve before your condition is completely treated.
